Having traveled across continents and seen some of the most remarkable places on earth, I thought I understood the language of luxury.

LOST IN THE MAGIC OF CAPELLA UBUD

But Capella Ubud in Bali speaks with something deeper— something more like imagination made real. It is not simply a hotel. It is a living dream set within the jungle, where design, nature and storytelling dissolve into a captivating narrative.

Located in the authentic and exotic town of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, Capella Ubud is breathtaking. It overwhelms in the most graceful way — through detail, atmosphere and the quiet confidence of its vision.

My rambunctious traveling group, led by my BFFs, fellow storyteller Büm Tenorio, Rita Trinidad and our ever-reliable Miladay consultant, Mike Mina, made the adventure even more meaningful. As we stepped inside the property, we were enveloped in awe and found ourselves filled with childlike wonder and curiosity. Our eyes feasted on every corner of this paradise as we explored its pathways, bridges, secret little spaces and whimsical details that brought smiles to our faces.

Capella Ubud, one of the world’s best hotels, is simply unique. It is inspired by a 19th-century explorer’s camp, where adventure, history, creativity and comfort blend together seamlessly.

As lavishly decorated tents welcome guests to Capella Ubud, they experience comfort, art and a simultaneous connection with nature. Every tent tells its own story through carefully curated décor with a distinct personality and atmosphere. The tent assigned to us had a baker’s theme, complete with subtle pastry-inspired touches.

Alfredo Esquillo Jr. remarks on the Bosch-like panels at the right side of the collective work “Habang Tanaw,” which now spreads along the 3rd floor hallway at Ateneo Art Gallery: “We finished it on the night Bato fled Congress,” he recalls with a grin, and maybe that’s why it’s speckled with so many familiar faces that feature in the latest heist of public funds.
