The FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting spectacle on the planet, but it is also one of the world's largest fashion stages.

Every four years, and now more than ever in the expanded 2026 tournament, football becomes a meeting point for sport, culture, music, entertainment and style. What supporters, players, celebrities and even entire national teams wear has become almost as closely watched as the action on the pitch.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, has underlined this transformation. With 48 teams, 104 matches and millions of travelling supporters, the tournament has become a month long global fashion festival. Stadiums, fan zones and city streets have turned into colourful runways where national identity and personal expression merge. Fashion is no longer a side attraction. It is part of the World Cup experience itself.

Football jerseys become fashion statements

The football jersey remains the centrepiece of World Cup fashion. Once regarded simply as sportswear, jerseys have evolved into fashionable lifestyle garments worn far beyond match days. Young supporters increasingly incorporate football shirts into everyday outfits, pairing them with jeans, cargo trousers, skirts and fashionable sneakers. The trend known as "blokecore" has helped transform football jerseys into mainstream streetwear.

Many supporters no longer wear jerseys solely to demonstrate loyalty to a national team. Jerseys have become symbols of culture, nostalgia and personal style. Vintage kits are especially popular because they combine sporting history with fashion appeal. Social media platforms have amplified the trend, encouraging supporters to showcase creative outfits inspired by football culture.
