Actor David Morrissey on comedy role

- BY TONY WHITFIELD

'I thought I could only get the truth through misery'

ACTOR David Morrissey may be best known for playing dark characters in gritty TV dramas but he says comedy has allowed him to open up and have fun.

Morrissey, 61, who starred in The Walking Dead, recently played private school headteacher Michael Polly, who became the prime suspect in his wife Sarah's disappearance in the slow-burning ITV drama Gone.

For much of his career, he believed you had to play disturbed characters to be authentic.

But his fans saw another side to him as he appeared alongside Aimee Lou Wood as a divorced dad who ends up in a flatshare with his pregnant daughter in the BBC comedy hit Daddy Issues.
