Scandal of jailed people smuggler claiming asylum in UK

‘This city’s ours’ ...Godfather of Calais camp running vape shop in Britain

A CONVICTED people smuggler once known as the “Godfather” of Calais migrant camps is living in the UK after claiming asylum.

Twana Jamal, 46, who made at least £1million from bringing migrants into Britain, works illegally at a vape shop in Leicestershire.

The discovery has prompted calls for Channel migrants to be detained for longer than the current 24-hour limit to allow more thorough ID checks to be carried out.

Convictions

Jamal, who earned £100,000-a-week bringing migrants into Britain on the back of lorries, was discovered by the BBC, which also found more than 20 still-active people smugglers — some of whom have convictions overseas.

Tony Smith, ex-director general of Border Force, told the Express: “The UK needs longer detention for undocumented arrivals because 24 hours is incompatible with serious verification.
