AS MICHAEL DELL once said, the best definition of a leader is simple: if people are willing to follow you.

One quiet truth that separates great leaders from good managers is giving "recognition" to their team. Tupperware's success over the years was built on the philosophy: Build the People to Build the Business! Recognition is not a soft skill on the periphery of leadership. It is one of the most strategically powerful tools a leader possesses.
Yet it remains chronically underused. Recognition is not the same as reward. A bonus is transactional.
Recognition is relational. It says: I noticed. I valued. You matter. It can take many forms - a handwritten note after a difficult assignment, acknowledging a junior colleague in a meeting, or simply pausing long enough to tell someone their effort made a difference.
What matters is intentionality. Genuine recognition is specific, timely, and sincere. Empty praise generic, performative, or habitual - usually has the opposite effect. People can tell the difference.
