ROMAN ROAD AMONG LATEST DISCOVERY
By KATIE TIMMS
More secrets of the soil revealed by Sherford work

AN ancient Roman road has been uncovered during the ongoing Sherford works, along with other incredible artefacts.

The new discovery comes a year after the discovery of the Sherford bone cave, including a wooly mammoth, rhino and wolf.

The finds were uncovered during part of key infrastructure work to create the Sherford Business Park. As well as shedding new light on how people once lived, worked and travelled, the discovery of a probable Roman road which extends across the length of the area towards Plympton - also showcases ancient construction methods such as crushed slate surface and adjacent drainage points still clearly visible and wellpreserved.
