The Star Trek legend, 91, says scientific research into the DNA of tree species including oak and pine shows they can communicate and feel like us.
He claims studies prove that nature on Earth is far more connected than we previously thought.
The actor, who played Captain Kirk in the famed sci-fi series, said: "We have discovered that trees are alive, we've discovered that trees have DNA not dissimilar to us. They're sending out electrochemical signals among the mausoleum of fungi.
"They are sending electrochemical signals along the pathway. Our brains are sending electrochemical signals along dendrites. How dissimilar is that?" The Hollywood star reckons we need to continue boldly going where no man has gone before.
He said: "There's a magic to life if only we would just think about it. And there is so much magic that we don't know about, that we haven't discovered. And when we do discover it, we see how connected the world and we are."
