STICKING two fingers up to his critics is not Gareth Southgate’s style.

He has too much class and manners for crude gestures or revenge-like rhetoric.

But if there’s one bloke at this World Cup who must feel like laughing in the faces of those who continue to deride him, it’s the England manager.

Those who prefer to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to appreciating Southgate should be out here in Qatar.

There’s loads of the stuff in the Doha desert and those same idiots wouldn’t have far to go.

I’d gladly dig all the holes for them, too.

The longer Southgate manages the Three Lions, the more unfathomable it is that people still don’t think he is the right man for the job.

Getting to the latter stages of major tournaments used to happen once a flood for the Three Lions.

But, under Southgate, this privilege is now raining down on England like it’s become the norm.
