The DCI Banks actor, 57, is on trial accused of punching a man drunkenly making noise outside his home.
Michael Bunch, prosecuting, said Tompkinson "lashed out" at Karl Poole, causing him to fracture his&nbsp;skull when he fell and hit his head.&nbsp;Newcastle Crown Court heard the star found Mr Poole and Andrew Hall drinking at the end of his drive in Whitley Bay, North Tynes, at 5.30am on May 30, 2021.
A neighbour watching from a window said Tompkinson punched Mr Poole, but the actor said he pushed him away in self-defence. Mr Bunch&nbsp;said the jury might think Tompkinson's "talent makes him convincing in putting across a story", adding: "He is an expert in playing a part - a man tormented by a pair of drunks."
