<p><strong>A RECORD number of men won payouts from the NHS last year over botched care that led to them losing a testicle. </strong></p>
<p>There were 36 claims from men paid a total of almost &pound;800,000 after the NHS accepted negligent care was the reason a testicle had to be removed.</p>
<p>In most cases, a delay in diagnosing illness left surgeons with no option than to cut off a testicle that could have been saved.</p>
<p>In a few cases the wrong one was removed and another op was needed to remove the correct one when the mistake was discovered.</p>
<p>The NHS pays around &pound;15,000 when&nbsp;it admits fault for leaving men as monorchids, the medical term for one&nbsp;testicle. Payments for wrongly removing a man&rsquo;s only healthy&nbsp;testicle can be about &pound;70,000, as it includes compensation for being left infertile.</p>
