The RSPCA said outdated superstitions, plus a belief that they don't look as good in social media snaps, mean the pussies are ignored.
It typically takes 29 days to rehome a jet-black cat, while a tabby takes just nine.
Natalie Archer, from the RSPCA, said: "Black cats&nbsp;won't bring you bad luck, but they do need forever homes.
"The colour of an animal's fur makes no difference."
Natalie, from the RSPCA's branch in Canterbury, Kent, added: "Sharing our lives and homes with these cats can be so rewarding."
