The Glad Cafe in Shawlands, Glasgow, is a not-for-profit venue and trendy bar but has faced the same problems as thousands across Britain after lockdown.
The Music Venue Trust says more than a third of similar venues have closed in the last 20 years.
It has identified nine including the Glad Cafe - it hopes to preserve as music buy venues and aims to do so by raising &pound;3.5milion to the freeholds of each venue, selling shares to "music fans and ethical investors".
Chief executive Mark Davyd said: "We are at the cliff edge and could see the decimation of our sector if we don't do something."
