A MAN died after his neighbour hit him with a dog leash, a court has heard.
Garage boss John Birrell, 55, suffered a cardiac arrest after an altercation with retired eye surgeon Hamish Towler, 66, in Inverness.
Towler is on trial at the High Court in Inverness charged with culpable homicide.
He denies the charge and has lodged a plea of self defence.
The court heard there was bad blood between the men, who lived near each other in the city's Blackpark area.
One the day of John's death, Towler had been walking his dogs on the road to their properties.
The court heard John was in a van that had to stop because Towler was in the middle of the road.
John's widow Yvonne, 57, said she saw John get out then get "struck with something", adding: "I believe it was a dog lead.
"Then I saw Mr Towler aim a punch at John's stomach".
The court heard John then had a heart attack and died.
Towler denies the culpable homicide of John on August 17, 2020.
Towler's self defence plea claims John verbally abused him and punched him several times.
The trial continues.
