Mastercard has unveiled plans for a biometric system called Pay face that makes contactless payment and Apple Pay seem outdated.
Users put their details into a phone app linked to their credit or debit card as well as taking a picture and scanning one of their fingerprints.
A camera at the till will read their features or fingerprint.
Then they just need to tap a screen to confirm the payment. Mastercard said: "All you will need is yourself."
The scheme is going on trial this week in Brazil, then in Asia and the Middle East too before it comes to Britain. But privacy experts have voiced concerns cybercriminals could hack the system and steal personal details.
Suzie Miles, of law firm Ashfords, said: "A password can be changed, your smile and wave can not. If biometric data is hacked, the risk of fraud could be considerably higher than it is currently."
