BATTERSEA Dogs & Cats Home has been "overwhelmed and touched" by the reaction of the public after the death of ambassador Paul O'Grady.

Chief executive Peter Laurie said the charity - which featured in the comic's TV show Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs had received countless letters, calls, emails, and messages of support.

A "tribute fund" in memory of the star, who passed away on Tuesday aged 67, had last night racked up £90,000 and could smash through the £100,000 barrier this weekend.

All the money donated will go towards the running of the much-loved charity, which has featured in 10 series of the hit ITV show.

The eleventh and final series will air posthumously later this month.

Mr Laurie hinted bosses at the South London home were considering a permanent tribute to the star.
