Rugby stars & motor neurone disease campaigners say drug trial breakthrough offers hope

Just the start..

TWO rugby legends have hailed a remarkable breakthrough in motor neurone disease treatment.

Doddie Weir, 52, and Rob Burrow, 39, both diagnosed with the condition, spoke after scientists stalled the impact of MND with a drug called Tofersen.

The treatment works in 2% of sufferers where the disease is caused by the SOD1 gene. But it has been described by experts as a "real moment of hope" in combating the disease.

Rob was diagnosed in 2019 and has raised millions to fund research and a center in Leeds with former Leeds Rhinos rugby league teammate Kevin Sinfield.
