The terrorists were “running scared” after 25 conspirators were rounded up including the alleged ringleader, selfstyled Prince Heinrich XIII. The 71-year-old was seized with a judge as well as serving and former soldiers.
The plot was hatched by people linked to the Reich Citizens movement, which rejects Germany’s postwar constitution and its government.
Georg Meier, the top security official in the state of Thuringia, told public broadcaster Deutschlandfunk that he expected a second wave of arrests as authorities reviewed files of evidence.
Security sources said around 20 to 25 suspects were “running scared”.
The coup was thwarted on Wednesday when more than 3,000 counter-terrorism police swooped in raids across Germany.
