Venice launches new £4 entry fee for day-trippers

It aims to discourage visitors from arriving on peak days.

Signs warning of the new charge for a test phase of 29 days through to July have been put up outside the main train station and other arrival spots.

A total of 200 stewards have been trained to explain how to pay the five euro (£4.28) fee by downloading a QR code.

Officials will carry out random checks.
