YE OLDE IS LIQUID GOLD (GERMANY)
"GUTEN Biermorgen, mein freunde"! ("Good beer morning my friends"). Our witty pal from Munich greeted us with a loud laugh. He had packed in a surprise for us that late evening, a memorable spirited pilgrimage to the Weihenstephan Monastery Brewery, a former Abbey of Benedictine Monks founded almost a 1000 years ago, the World's Oldest Brewery at Freising near Munich.
At this vintage centuries-old brick-clad Brauhaus (beer hall) we relished Bavaria's unique frothy offering, weisse bier (wheat beer) that was first brewed here. Weihenstephan's famed Dark Wheat Beer spoke a bubbly language of caramel, chestnut, light cocoa and hay. Delicious with Bavarian Bergkase (mountain cheese).
In fact the world's finest Kristallweisse Beer is a proud product of this historical landmark.
Their striking number Dunkel or Dark Beer with impressive vanilla, caramel, fruity, hints of bitterness (welcome) and spice matched the Bavarian Obatza, a cheesy garlicky-onionparsley dip with fresh Pretzels. The Weizenbock Vitus, a Strong wheat beer in a Bock(large goblet), boasted spice accents in cloves, plantain and strong smoked wheat aromas. Bavarian country tunes added nostalgia all the merry while as we took in the TM CS cheery ambience with smiling red-cheeked beer buffs.

IT'S THE tiniest rumery in the world, very boutique and very exclusive. We discovered the delightful Fiji Rum Co. at the verdant Denarau Golf and Racquet Club on Denarau Island in Fiji, South Pacific. With the fairytale distillery unit, stack of weather worn rum barrels, tasting alcove and retail shop all within a modest space, the effusive and amiable Liam Costello (Director, Master Blender and Master Distiller), creates rare award-winning and boutique limited-edition rums from this one miniature address.
