LIFE HASN'T ALWAYS BEEN A CABARET FOR MS MINNELLI, WHO'S OVERCOME MORE TURBULENCE AND TRAGEDY THAN MOST
THE PAIN of being Liza

A STAR IS BORN

Liza (with a Z!) was born on March 12, 1946 to actress Judy Garland and her second husband, film director Vincente Minnelli. As the daughter of Hollywood royalty, Liza was instantly thrust into the industry – making her on-screen debut when she was just 3 alongside her mum in In the Good Old Summertime.

Interestingly, Liza revealed in a 2008 interview that she initially found the movie-making biz quite “boring” when she had to go on-set with her father, who famously directed Judy in Meet Me in St. Louis as well as An American in Paris.

“I always ended up in the rehearsal hall watching the dancing. That’s what I liked to do,” Liza reflected.

MAMA & ME

With her parents splitting when she was 5, Liza was forced to grow up fast to care for her troubled ‘mama’. Judy notoriously struggled with addiction, severe depression and suicide attempts.
