The might be the Queen of Country music, but Dolly Parton is trading her rhinestone cowboy boots for leopard print and leather as she releases her first rock album, aptly titled Rockstar.
Featuring 30 covers of iconic anthems, Dolly, 77, tells New Idea that the record also serves as a touching love letter to her husband of more than 50 years, Carl Dean, as it features all his favourite tunes. There’s also a duet with her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, for Dolly’s version of Miley’s hit song, ‘Wrecking Ball’!
Tell us how you got the idea to do a rock album…
Well, my husband loves rock and roll and so he has always wanted me to do a rock album. Then when they inducted me into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I thought I better go and do something to rock and roll. That’s where the album came from.
You’re known as a country music star, so how did the title come about?
