The undisputed king of people movers - or multipurpose vehicles - Toyota Kirloskar is tightening its grip on the segment. Having raised the bar with the new Innova HyCross, the Indian subsidiary of the Japan's largest car maker is set to flank the segment with a new Ertiga based MPV-internally called D23 at the entry and the Innova Crysta sandwiching the two in 2022.
This will make Toyota the only company with the widest possible MPV offering in the market straddling across powertrain, petrol, diesel, CNG, mild-hybrid and strong hybrid catering to the needs of buyers from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price point.
The Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership has already spawned several sibling models in India as well as globally. We already have the Baleno-Glanza and Grand VitaraHyryder on sale in India, but both brands will further diversify their portfolio with more cross-badged products.
