India poised to shift gear with next-gen connected cars

Telecommunications has radically evolved over the years and is a far cry from the 1G technology that stunned the world in the late 70s. As India emerges from the pandemic, 5G or 5th generation of wireless technology, will play the role of a catalyst, propelling us into the global arena, while also defining our digital future.

Arguably the most disruptive innovation seen in recent years, 5G holds the promise of transforming sectors such as aviation, telecom, gaming, agriculture and automotive, amongst others. Delivering increased speed, enhanced network capacity, lower latency and greater reliability, its applications and uses are innumerable, both already in practical use and as envisaged for the future. As has always been the case, the future holds discovery and development of newer use-cases leveraging the goodness of 5G, which have not yet been imagined. In many of the new use cases being developed, these ride onhuge amounts of data being sent to the cloud. Rapid adoption of 5G worldwide, has played a pivotal role in the development of the connected intelligent edge, a continually expanding range of smart devices and platforms that connect and share information with each other, offering real-time insights and experiences to users, and reducing the data that is sent to the cloud. A lot of time-critical and security-sensitive data will be processed using the connected intelligent edge.

Fuelled by breakthrough technologies like 5G, the automotive industry is geared to completely transform both in-car and on-road experiences. IoT or Internet of things applications, have triggered a paradigm shift in manufacturing, consumer experience and road safety by bringing data, software and machines into the same loop, thus building optimised processes, increased efficiency and improved performance.
