When the Spice Girls wrapped up their hugely successful reunion tour of the UK at London’s Wembley Stadium back in 2019, Melanie Brown declared to the crowd that the next stop on their triumphant comeback trail would be Down Under.
Venues in both New Zealand and Australia were said to be fielding enquiries from the girl group’s management, but Scary Spice later backtracked, admitting, “I announced it on stage without everybody else signing off. I figured if I put it out there, it might happen.”
However, it seems the universe was indeed listening as, last month, Mel met with her bandmates Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Chisholm – Victoria Beckham is still holding out – to firm up plans for a proposed world tour, reported to be kicking offin Australasia in 2023.
And speaking exclusively to Woman’s Day, Mel appears to confirm the rumours, telling us, “I really do hope to get to New Zealand. It would be great to perform in front of our Kiwi fans. They’ve been so incredibly supportive of us over the years and I hope they know just how much they mean to us.”
