Whatever is open or shut, a stroll beside the Thames is a joy for all

Walking London's RIVERSIDE

Knowing where to start a walk along the Thames is tricky. So, we have a suggestion – why not begin at Tower Bridge? You’ll be right by the Tower of London, a Royal Palace and the site of the Crown Jewels, and close to St Katharine’s Docks, a secluded marina perfect for boat-watching.

Start your walk

Cross Tower Bridge to the south side. There are tours inside this Victorian landmark to discover the stories behind its construction and see the engine rooms that power the impressive lifting mechanism.

Once over the bridge, turn right onto the traffic-free riverside path. Spot the smart Bridge Theatre on your left – great for a night out – and modern City Hall, home of the mayor, on your right. Note too The Scoop, an open-air amphitheatre that has outdoor entertainment in summer.
