With over 12 years of experience in the beauty industry, Disha Meher, the national skin and nail expert at Lakmé, is the creative powerhouse behind the new, innovative services that the brand offers. In the past, she has donned various roles and responsibilities, such as that of the national technical head at Christine Valmy International School of Esthetics, and that of a judge for the national competition conducted by the National Skill Development Council (NSDC). She was also enlisted as a national coach by the NSDC, and visited the 10th ASEAN Worlds Skill Competition held in Vietnam, to share her expertise in skin-care. The veteran talks to us about the huge scope for aspirants in the field of nail art and tells us what it takes to be a nail technician.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A NAIL TECHNICIAN?
A nail technician is a beauty specialist who is responsible for the grooming and appearance of a client’s fingernails and toenails. He or she provides manicures, pedicures, nail shaping, cuticle grooming, callus removal, nail treatments, and application of nail polish for their clients.
HOW DID YOU PREPARE FOR THE JOB?
I have taken courses in skin —CIDESCO, machines—CIBTAC, a post graduation in aromatherapy—CIDESCO, studied Level 3 at City & Guild, taken nail extension and nail art courses, and earned a diploma in aromatherapy.
WHAT IS A REGULAR DAY AT WORK LIKE?
The daily routine of a nail artist focuses strictly on providing the best possible nail care for their clients. Throughout the day, we welcome clients and consult with them to discover what they need done to their fingers and toes.
