IN BULLISH MOOD!

FORMED BACK IN 2009, RB LEIPZIG HAVE ENJOYED A RAPID RISE FROM HUMBLE ORIGINS TO DINING AT THE TOP TABLE OF GERMAN AND EUROPEAN FOOTBALL.
IN BULLISH MOOD!

RB Leipzig – or RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V. to give the club its full name – came into existence in 2009 when Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, known for their production of energy drinks, purchased the playing rights of then-fifth-tier German club SSV Markranstadt.

RB Leipzig is one of four football teams to feature in the company’s sporting portfolio, the others being FC Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Bragantino (a merger of the former Red Bull Brazil and Clube Atletico Bragantino). They also previously owned Red Bull Ghana, but the club was dissolved in 2014.

Die Roten Bullen (meaning The Red Bulls in English), as they are nicknamed, have experienced a swift rise up the German football pyramid, winning the NOFV-Oberliga Sud title in their inaugural season in 2009/10 to gain promotion to the Regionalliga Nord. They claimed that title in 2012/13 without suffering a single league defeat that season and joined the 2.Bundesliga in 2014/15 having finished second in 3. Liga the previous campaign. Their ascent to the top level was complete in 2016 when the club finished runners-up to Freiburg in 2.Bundesliga.
