“Runners, like all patients, usually consult Dr Google before they seek medical help,” says Dr Jordan D. Metzl, sports medicine physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. That can mean spending weeks trying random injury solutions to no avail. “By the time patients come to me, they want a quick fix to get back on the road,” Metzl says.
Increasingly, the speedy solution runners request is cortisone injections.
