MPs TURN UP HEAT ON JOHNSON

BORIS Johnson is facing calls for his resignation and a police investigation over the scandal of Downing Street parties at the height of the Covid lockdown.

Opposition MPs, relatives of those who died in the pandemic and MPs from his own party have said the Prime Minister must go over a “bring your own booze” invite to a Downing Street garden party while thousands of people died alone in hospitals under Covid rules.

Labour’s Angela Rayner said the Prime Minister’s absence from the Commons to answer the allegations spoke volumes.

Standing at the despatch box, Rayner told MPs: “Did the Prime Minister attend the events in the Downing Street garden on the 20th of May 2020? It won’t wash, Mr Speaker, to blame this on a few junior civil servants. The Prime Minister sets the tone. If the Prime Minister was there, surely he knew.”
