TERRIFIED students were evacuated from a sixth form college as members of staff grappled with a suspected gunman yesterday.

Two were injured after taking on the attacker before armed police detained an 18-year-old man.

Last night detectives were liaising with counter-terror police and insisted that “all lines of inquiry are open”.

Students claimed that the gunman, who was also armed with a knife, stabbed one lecturer in the hand.

The gunman reportedly fired blanks from a pistol directly at another lecturer before being tackled to the ground.

They said the masked man entered the grounds at Crawley College, West Sussex, at 3.10pm, waving the pistol as he stood in the car park.

Witness Elise Stellebotte, 17, said she and fellow students “dived out” of their classroom after hearing shots.
