After actress Pia Miranda was crowned winner and collected the $500,000 prize, unhappy fans rallied around the Toki family, starting a GoFundMe page which has since surpassed half-a-million dollars in donations.

Speaking to New Idea, Mary says the money will help the young Perth family get out of debt.

“Luke went away to try and help our family, and it didn’t go exactly the way he hoped it would. So [this money] will actually get us out of a little bit of hell!” she says.

“We were not financially strong … times were really tough. And that’s why he was out there looking for an exit. We want to set up stability for us and security for the boys and Madeline growing up.”
