Ham radio or amateur radio uses a variety of radio frequencies (RF) from the spectrum for non-commercial exchanges, recreation, and self-training. Operators (called hams) play a vital role during disasters and national emergencies by providing parallel communications in times when the established lines breakdown.
Radio Amateurs all over the world are well known for their commitment to humanitarian service in crisis situations. Though there were no major communication disruptions reported, Hams in India have been voluntarily involved for their services to support and compliment the work of various Government agencies. Indian Institute of Hams, VU2IIH located in Bengaluru under the leadership of Dr.S.Sathyapal, VU2FI made noteworthy contributions to manage the crisis situation putting with over 260 Hams across the city to ensure seamless flow of information through their radio channels. The priorities of the COVID-19 war room include:
• Keeping vigil on those infected and ensuring that it does not spread.
• Collecting information on all arriving from abroad and keeping track of them.
• Calling every day and keeping track of those who are on home quarantine for 14 days.
• Using the format provided by WHO, the war room will be mapping the regions affected, measures taken and monitor the state of implementation.
• Collecting data on areas affected, families and people residing in them and so on
A 24/7 Command and Control Centre to monitor and keep vigil on the various activities connected to Covid-19 pandemic.

MoD signs contract with MDSL to supply Light Specialist Vehicles to Indian Army
Providing further boost to ‘Make in India’, Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd (MDSL) for supply of 1,300 Light Specialist Vehicles to the Indian Army, at a cost of Rs 1,056 crore, in New Delhi on March 22, 2021. The induction of vehicles is planned to be completed in four years.

The agreement on the modernization and licensed production of IL-103 in Hungary was concluded on March 17 between Ilyushin Aviation Complex (part of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) under Rostec State Corporation) and the Hungarian company Aviation Engineering Zrt The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Oleg Bocharov and Counselor, Deputy Ambassador of Hungary to the Russian Federation Laszlo Vida. The document was signed on the Russian side by the First Deputy General Director of UAC, Managing Director of ILYUSHIN Sergey Yarkovoy, and on the Hungarian side by the General Director of Aviation Engineering Zrt. Laszlo Boros.
DRDO conducts successful flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out a flight demonstration based on Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from Integrated Test Range Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 05, 2021. All the subsystems, including the booster motor and nozzle-less motor, performed as expected. During the test, many new technologies were proven, including Solid Fuel based Ducted Ramjet technology.
