In the above paragraph I mention a formula for success in life. This is the consistent process of what I would like to call “creative loss.” In a world in which gain, and especially material gain, is conceived to be the number-one priority for all actions and orientations, the concept—and the actuality!—of a consciously created orientation to loss seems absurd. But it is exactly this process that is personified by the higher nature of the sign Scorpio.
But there are procedures, methods, and qualifications to the Scorpionic, evolutionary direction of the proper use of loss, death, and release. In the Esoteric Wisdom Teachings of which the true astrology is a major part, we call this evolutionary direction The Path. Scorpio, along with its rulers Mars and Pluto, and its astrological domicile, the eighth house, plays a major role in its unfolding, as does the esoteric planet of Taurus, Vulcan. Three other energetic factors are also of major importance to this process, factors about which I will write in this article. These are the First, Fourth, and Sixth Rays.
The Rays, of which there are seven, are the fundamental “energy fields” used for the manifestation of all and everything. Indeed, traditional exoteric astrology (psychology, behavior, character, and personality) is based on the number twelve: the twelve signs. Esoteric astrology (evolutionary path, reason for incarnation, soul personality interplay), however, is based on the number seven while soul-centered astrology attempts to combine the two into a synthesized approach to living in our world. This soul-centered approach, as I have often written, is to provide an astrological lens for those of us who are simultaneously walking the vertical Path to Heaven and the horizontal path of daily life on earth.
As we move along our Way, we find that we cannot take everything with us: Certain relationships have to go, attachments to particular emotions have to be released, thought processes must be “upgraded,” and careers have to be changed. Loss confronts us at every “turn of the evolutionary wheel,” and resistance to change (and its accompanying fears) arises from the subconscious. We thus find ourselves at a loss facing loss. If we are courageous enough, we move through these “existential crises” (for they are just that, and they test the nature and level of our existence), and we face the emptiness full stop.
This is Scorpio, this is the eighth house, and this is Pluto at their highest and finest! But true to their secretive natures, this sign/planet/house combination holds hidden treasures, sacred gems, and endless abundance. It is just that on the Path of Life, consciousness is not free! You have to pay for it, and the cost is right out of Aladdin and The One Thousand and One Nights in which one is asked to trade “old lamps for new” and inside the new lamp is the Genie! If you look at the name Aladdin, you will see that it contains the word Allah, which of course is the Arabic name for God. The second part of the name indicates “excellence” or “supremacy.” Thus, Aladdin means “he who is of excellent (faith) in Allah.” It is a person who has given up his old patterns, his established path/lamp of light, and as a result has found the Genie! I love this word, as it relates to the Arabic djinn, meaning a supernatural being, and the Greek root genesis, meaning “root” or “beginning,” from which we get our English words Genesis (first book of the Bible), genius, gene, etc.
Thus, in order for each of us to find our own “genie in the lamp,” we have to give up something and trade in a “form” of lesser value, even though it may still be precious to us. Refusing to do so will result in one or another level of hoarding, which, when taken to the extreme, smothers us in a death where there is no regeneration, no redemption, no freedom, and no energetic, karmic release, save that of physical death itself (but then, in my belief, in reincarnation we come back anyway and have to do the same thing again until we learn). And even if you do not believe in life-after-life, it is a sad end to be smothered to death in your own refusal of releasing your refuse!

Your Astrological Guide To Getting Organized!
Sometimes, working at home as a writer, I feel overwhelmed by pieces of paper, large and small. The same is true of pens and reference books. When the stacks are tall enough to cast shadows, I grow claustrophobic and flee to the public library. There I can work in a spacious, orderly, and ideal if somewhat sterile world.
Question: Which dorm mate should I choose?Date: July 23, 2017Time: 10:24:00 A.M. E.D.T.Place: West Hartford, CTThis question came from my client’s daughter who is beginning her first year of college and will live on campus. She asked: “I have a dorm room at the college I will attend this fall. Two of my girlfriends are also attending the same college. They both want to room with me, but I can only take one as a roommate. Which one should I choose?”I asked her which friend requested to room with her first. This a very important question because it establishes the houses that rule each friend.
Soul - Centered Astrology - Scorpio: Sign Of Death But The Key To A Better Life
As we awaken to the realization of the need to align ourselves to the reality of the Soul (and aid and counsel others toward this same orientation), we seek out ways to implement a greater measure of the Will-to-Good into our lives. One of these is an attitude of self-acceptance in that we do not consistently judge ourselves. Instead, we strive to observe what in us resists and inhibits a greater flowering of goodwill both in ourselves and in others. Often this is based on a sense of separation from life manifesting in ego-centricity and projected expectations of behavior both on the part of others as well as ourselves. Giving ourselves up to the sense of the One while at the same time actively doing our part in the One Work is fundamental to the reduction of stress and the implementation of Joy in our lives.

The Titan Prometheus was a pretty arrogant fellow in my view. According to Greek myth, he stole the fire of knowledge from the gods, hidden in a fennel stalk, to give to humanity for our enlightenment. Did he consult any humans beforehand to see if we wanted such a double-edged gift? To the best of my knowledge, he did not. He thought he knew best. For this blatant act of hubris—i.e., thinking you are as smart as the gods—he was savagely punished by Zeus, their king. You probably know the story, but it bears repeating just to remind us that hubris is not a good idea. Chained to a rock, Prometheus had his liver pecked out by an eagle on a daily basis; it regrew overnight—the punishment never ended.
Christmas And Soul - Centered Gifts For The Signs
The search for self—the process of individuation—is not a fad. Certainly, there are processes, weekend intensives, and specialized spiritual products and programs that come and go. We could say that there are a number of outer forms for the search for self that are indeed trendy, glamorous, and faddish, but that is the nature of all forms of social popularity in general. The essential search for the key to the expansion of consciousness and the resultant transformations in our attitudes and lifestyles are certainly not faddish. There is a Path, and that Path is the Goal; our job is getting There, and I assure you that there is a “There” to get to.—AO
December's Planets And You
As loyal readers know, eclipses are the most powerful energizers in astrology. I usually begin an eclipse analysis about three months prior to its occurrence because the general rule is that Solar Eclipses begin to heat up the degrees in the zodiac about 90 days in advance. An example from last spring, however, demonstrates that this time span is simply a guideline.
Why Do People Run for Office?
There is no group more maligned by the American people than politicians, which is odd when we consider that politicians and politics are a natural byproduct of the democracy of which we are so proud. If you want to avoid politicians currying your favor and promising you things they can’t deliver, perhaps you should go live under a dictatorship. There the leaders just tell you what to do.

Does Astrology Deny Free Will?
A criticism commonly leveled against astrology involves the thorny issue of free will. If our lives are somehow influenced or even predetermined by the stars, the argument goes, doesn’t that mean we have no real choice, that we’re little more than puppets of an overarching cosmic fate?
