Designer Monica Shah and Karishma Swali of the label Jade recently completed 10 years in the industry with a magnificent shoot of their archival pieces in Ladakh. Rushmika Banerjee explores further.
Armed with over two decades of experience with international luxury fashion houses such as Fendi and Gucci, designers Monica Shah and Karishma Swali launched their label Jade in 2008. In these 10 years, the designers have managed to carve a niche for themselves in India’s booming bridalwear market. Their designs are an embodiment of the duo’s neoclassical aesthetics, exemplary handiwork, and exceptional pattern-making skills. Earlier this year, Jade’s creative compass took them to the breathtaking locales of Ladakh, to offer a backdrop to 10 of the label’s most-treasured archival pieces. Through this campaign, the designers wanted to pay tribute to the three cornerstones of their label—the artisans who weave magic, the real women who breath into their creations, and India, their eternal and inspiration. Excerpts from an interview where the designer-duo talks about their learnings and the vision for the next big 10:
