Work From Home A Double-Edged Sword

The new normal of 'working from home' has made significant transitions to our lifestyle and our environment by creating a better work-life balance.

Amid the pandemic, technologies have made progressive developments and have opened up countless possibilities and opportunities for both employees and employers. The 9-5 culture is vaning and the usage of emerging tech solutions has in a sense allowed us to stay productive, engaged, and successful.

But submerged in the positive outcomes is a vast bed of hidden challenges.

Ivanti, a cloud asset management company conducted its Everywhere Workplace Study recently where a whopping 71% of respondents said they would prefer to work from anywhere than get a promotion. Despite its popularity, remote work is a double-edged sword, with almost 10% of respondents reporting a negative effect on their mental health.

At SaaS Industry, we strive to give you a balanced look at the work from home culture by peering through the lenses. Here's what we found.

Two years since the world went on a lockdown, it's clear that remote and hybrid work is here to stay. But submerged in the positive outcomes of working from home, is a vast bed of hidden challenges.

Seismic shift in the workplace

March and April 2020 saw almost half the world go into lockdown including the US, India, and Europe. With the onset of covid-19, The employees were given the freedom to choose where and how they work. Major platforms like Twitter, and Microsoft offered a work-from-home policy that allows employees to work remotely for at least half of the week and Reddit decided to permanently move to a hybrid workplace model.

Two years since then, even after a significant wane in fresh Covid cases, it's clear that remote and hybrid work is here to stay. Founder of TalentCulture, Meghan M Biro lists a simple reason why.
