It’s common for us when setting about writing a story for a feature car in the magazine to find the owner’s reason for building a particular project was to have something different. Enter the king of different – Ian Thomsen’s rat style F6 Ford truck, they don’t come much more individual than this one, and Ian has done a masterful job of achieving that popular vision – to start with a concept and follow it right through to a well-executed conclusion.

Yes, it’s a rat rod, but certainly no ordinary one. You don’t often come across a street rod with a twin turboed, methanol injected diesel engine for a start. Stuff that monster into a truck, dump it on the ground and keep its original patina into the bargain and you know you’ve got different. As they say in the Aldi adverts; good – different!

The project started out in November of 2017 with Ian’s vision of a pro-street rat rod that he could also drag race high in his consciousness. The base vehicle was a very ordinary F6 Ford truck, but that wasn’t of great concern as it was destined for major changes anyway.
