NORTHERN SOUL

The spotlight shone on the North of England in 2025. Bradford was the UK City of Culture, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway celebrated its 200th anniversary and the Dales National Park held its 10th Dark Skies Festival. The biggest music event of the year was served up by Manchester-born brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, who buried the hatchet for Oasis' first tour in 16 years.

When the Lionesses' devoted fans sang 'football's coming home', it turned out to be true – they won the Euros for the second time. Also victorious were the Red Roses Rugby squad, who saw off the rest of the planet to win their third Women's Rugby World Cup. Sent on their way with a stunning try by star player Ellie Kildunne, they beat Canada in the final at Twickenham in September.
