Captivating Cathedrals

Whether or not you're religious, there is something quietly profound about stepping inside a cathedral, and Britain has some of the most famous and beautiful in the world. Perhaps it's that combination of history and spirituality, peace and grandeur, combined with sheer craftsmanship, that leaves us with a sense of wonder. We take a peek inside some of our most beloved examples.

Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral is truly breathtaking. Set on a rocky peninsula above the River Wear, it has cinematic views of the surrounding city and countryside. Possibly the world's greatest example of Romanesque architecture, the Cathedral is both an active place of worship and a World Heritage Site. Inside are stone pillars, sweeping arches, a towering rib-vaulted nave, exquisite carvings, stained glass, and calming cloisters. It also contains the tombs of Saint Cuthbert and Bede, the 'Father of English history'.
