Ponni M. Concessao is a renowned architect who has left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape of India. From her early aspirations as a student in Chennai to becoming the first woman architect in India to design a Secretariat, Ponni's journey is one of determination, talent, and dedication. Alongside her architectural achievements, she has also been a vocal advocate for women's empowerment and has actively contributed to nation-building initiatives.

Early Life And Education

Ponni’s passion for architecture developed during her school days at Church Park Convent in Chennai. She was determined to pursue a pioneer in women’s technical woman undergraduate student at the prestigious National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli in June 1987. Ponni then went on to complete her post-graduate studies at Cornell University in the United States in 1989. During her time there, she gained valuable experience working with Edward Larabbee Barnes Architect in New York City, where she witnessed gender equity and international Additionally, Ponni pursued Advanced Professional Studies at Harvard University and has been honoured with honorary doctorates from the University of Malaysia and the University of Milano for her contributions to modern architecture and architectural science.
