There are fears for the star's wellbeing after he was pictured in tears

Rod Stewart sparked cause for concern last week when he was spotted breaking down in tears in an LA store.

The 78-year-old rocker was snapped being comforted by wife Penny Lancaster, days after Page Six published claims his eldest son Sean, 42, had "cashed out" the funds he stood to inherit after his father's death to help rebuild his clothing line, Dirty Weekend.

"Everyone was shocked to see Rod break down," an insider tells Woman's Day of the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? singer.

"He's normally such a happy, glass-half-full kind of guy who loves life, his family and wife Penny, so to breakdown in public feels completely out of character.

"There are concerns that there's more to it than a few rumours about Sean's finances and a spending spree."
