Alex de Minaur's first coaches spill on the Aussie tennis legend
-
From the moment Alex de Minaur, current World No.6, arrived for his first private tennis lesson in 2004, his coaches, brother and sister Kerry and Cindy Dock, knew he was something special. At just four years old, it was obvious that “Alex was destined for greatness,” Cindy shares exclusively with Woman's Day.
“He was so little,” adds Kerry of the now-26-year-old. “He lived and breathed tennis, and his dad shared with me early on that he spent two to three hours a day hitting the ball at home, and was even home-schooled so he could maximise practice time.”“He came every Tuesday and Thursday, and never missed a session.”
“I'll never forget the day he got his first serve over - trust me, there was no other kid on the planet that could've gotten that serve in from the baseline at the age of four!”
Kerry, 65, knew he had to make some tough decisions about young Alex’s playing future and handed over the budding champion to Cindy.
