I CAN'T BE A FAT NANNA!

Pottering around at home, I saw my phone light up with a video call from my daughter Hollie, then 31. I swiped the screen, expecting to see her grinning back at me - only tears were streaming down her face.

'What's wrong?' I gasped. Hollie held up six white sticks in front of the camera, and I squinted to focus on them.

'I'm pregnant!' she said, suddenly grinning through her sobs. I immediately started squealing with excitement as I congratulated her.

It was November 2021, and Hollie and her partner Paul had been trying for a baby for years, but her endometriosis made it hard to conceive. They'd had a failed round of IVF too, but now it was finally happening for them.

'My first grandchild!' I beamed to my partner Lee, then 55. As the weeks passed, Hollie's bump grew, but she wasn't the only one gaining weight...

'Mum, you need to lose a few pounds for when the baby arrives,' Hollie said gently one day as we had coffee. She knew I wanted to be a hands-on nan, but at 5ft 9in, a size 22 and 18st 7lb, I was sluggish and lethargic.
