Last week, I found a simple little bottle opener in my shed. It was in a tin of old stuff I’d found in the vintage caravan we once owned. It was small, cast-iron and of a type common when I was a kid. It was completely rusted over, but I could just make out the name “Reid’s Ale” embossed on its handle. Along the top of the bottle opener was a number I couldn’t read.
