With its striking blue-and-white contrasts and landscapes that vary from coast to country to ancient architecture, Greece is a photographer’s dream. But how do you translate what you’re seeing into professional-looking holiday photography, without lugging around a ton of equipment or getting a master’s degree in fine arts? You learn some simple tricks and tips. Here, Gourmet Traveller photographers Taryn Peck and Elise Hassey share advice on shooting all of Greece’s beauty – from the Aegean to Athens – which can easily be applied to wherever you may be heading next.
FILTERS AND EDITING
Both Peck and Hassey use professional editing software: Hassey likes Adobe Lightroom with a few extra tweaks in Photoshop, while Peck likes Lightroom and Capture One. However, both photographers say that smartphones have a few neat editing apps that also do the job: Peck likes the VSCO app and Hassey says that she’s a fan of the filtering tools available within Instagram. When shooting holiday shots, Peck says she tends to warm up her images a little to make them feel sunnier, but the main trick is practice. “Play around until you find what works for you,” she says.
