FROM LIE-FLAT SEATS TO TECH-PACKED SUITES, THE BATTLE FOR BEST BUSINESS CLASS IS HEATING UP
BUSINESS TRAVEL HAS always been a showcase for innovation, but 2026 feels like a watershed year.
Despite significant geopolitical challenges, rising oil prices and persistent aircraft and supply chain delays, airlines are unveiling premium cabins that redefine what it means to fly in business or first class.
Privacy, technology and luxury are no longer optional extras; they are the baseline. The competition is fierce, and the battleground isn’t route networks or loyalty programmes - it’s the suite itself, the personal space where travellers spend hours suspended between continents.
Here, we take a look at the best seats in the sky.
US CARRIERS RAISE THE BAR
United Airlines has begun rolling out Polaris 2.0, its most ambitious premium cabin redesign in years. The new suite, debuting on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to Singapore and London, introduces sliding doors, larger inflight entertainment screens and a front-row Polaris Studio concept with companion seating and extra perks, such as caviar, on the menu.
The Star Alliance airline is also extending Polaris to narrow-body aircraft, with A321neo “Coastliners” and A321XLRs bringing lie-flat beds to transcontinental services, thinner transatlantic routes and markets in South America.United's push for premium passengers follows moves by other US-based carriers. American Airlines launched its own new generation of premium seating in 2025 and will continue to roll out the premium cabins on newly delivered Boeing 787-9s and A321XLR aircraft (see our review, page 76). This will also include a retrofit of its existing 777-300ER fleet with the next-generation Flagship Suites. Meanwhile, JetBlue’s reimagined Mint suites debuted with sliding doors between London and New York City in summer 2021.
