IPHONE 17 HITS RECORD SALES AND DOMINATES KEY MARKETS
-
As the confetti from CES 2026 settles, one narrative dominates the tech zeitgeist: Apple's unyielding growth. The iPhone 17 lineup, unveiled in September 2025, has conquered.
In a year when global smartphone shipments eked out a modest 2% year-over-year growth, Apple surged 10%, eclipsing Samsung's perennial throne after 14 years of rivalry.
NUMBER ONEFor the first time since the iPhone 4's antennagate era, Apple has unseated Samsung as the world's top smartphone shipper. Full-year 2025 data from Counterpoint Research paints a decisive picture: Apple captured 20% of global market share, edging out Samsung's 19%. This reversal caps a 14-year streak for the Korean giant, whose Galaxy lineage once symbolized Android's ubiquity. Global shipments totaled around 1.2 billion units, a tepid 2% uptick from 2024's slump, but Apple's 10% growth, fueled by 240 million iPhone 17 series units, contrasted sharply with Samsung's 5% crawl. The iPhone 17's secret? A portfolio as versatile as it is voracious. The base model, priced at $799 with its 48MP triple-camera fusion and 20% boost in battery life, lured upgrade cycles from iPhone 13 holdouts. Pro variants, boasting titanium frames and LiDARenhanced AR, dominated the $1,000-plus tier, where Apple commands a 60% global share.
Apple Intelligence's on-device AI (which, of course, still needs considerable work), seamless Apple Watch pairing, and trade-in incentives averaging $300 per device accelerated a 15% attach rate for Services bundles.
Q4 2025 crystallized the coup: Apple's 25% share marked its peak, with 65 million units shipped, versus Samsung's 18% share.Dit verhaal komt uit de January 31, 2026-editie van Techlife News.
