OpenAI, Nvidia, and a consortium of tech giants, including Oracle, Cisco, and SoftBank, announced earlier this week a groundbreaking partnership to construct Stargate UAE, an artificial intelligence infrastructure cluster in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

OPENAI AND NVIDIA LEAD UAE'S STARGATE AI PROJECT TO BOOST GLOBAL INNOVATION

Unveiled during a state visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, the project, led by Emirati firm G42, aims to establish a 5-gigawatt AI data center campus spanning 10 square miles, with an initial 200-megawatt cluster set to launch in 2026.

For global tech innovators, regional policymakers, and AI researchers, Stargate UAE represents a pivotal step in expanding AI capabilities in a $2 trillion market, fostering breakthroughs in healthcare, education, and energy.

Positioned as a sister project to the U.S.-based Stargate initiative, which plans to invest up to $500 billion in domestic AI infrastructure, the UAE effort underscores a strategic U.S.-UAE alliance to counterbalance China's AI advancements.

Stargate UAE, announced at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum in Riyadh, is a collaborative effort to build a massive AI data center complex in Abu Dhabi, led by G42 with operational support from OpenAl and Oracle, and hardware from Nvidia's Blackwell GB300 systems.

The project's first phase, a 1-gigawatt compute cluster, includes a 200-megawatt AI cluster expected to go live in 2026, with the full campus reaching 5 gigawatts-enough to power a major city.

OpenAl's CEO Sam Altman described it as a step toward ensuring "breakthroughs like safer medicines, personalized learning, and modernized energy" benefit the world, while Nvidia's Jensen Huang called it a driver of the UAE's "bold vision" for economic growth.

The initiative aligns with the U.S. Stargate project, launched in January 2025 with $500 billion in planned investments, including a 1.2-gigawatt campus in Abilene, Texas, set for completion by mid-2026.
