APPLE WALLET ID SUPPORT EXPANDS TO ELEVENTH STATE AS DIGITAL IDENTIFICATION GAINS MOMENTUM

Apple is continuing its steady rollout of digital identification, with the Apple Wallet now supporting driver's licenses and state IDs in an eleventh U.S. state.

The expansion marks another milestone in Apple’s push to make the iPhone and Apple Watch central to how users carry and present identity, while also testing how quickly governments and regulators are willing to adopt digital-first credentials.

HOW APPLE WALLET IDS WORK

The feature allows users to add their driver’s license or state-issued ID directly into the Wallet app, in much the same way boarding passes and credit cards are stored. Once verified, the digital ID can be used at participating TSA checkpoints in select airports, with users simply tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch against an identity reader. Instead of handing over a physical card, individuals authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID, ensuring that only the device owner can present the digital credential.
