Jon Bentley believes that more visible proof of being environmentally friendly is desirable and doable
Should all tech come labelled with a 'circularity' score - an easily understood rating that tells you how good the product is at living up to the principles of the circular economy? In case you're not familiar with the term, this is an ideal model of production and consumption that minimises waste and maximises the efficient use of resources, including by sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products to make them useful for as long as possible.
The thought occurred to me recently while spending a few days with the new electric Renault 5. I found it easy to understand why it's been voted 2025 Car of the Year. I've seen much less attention paid to its environmental credentials however, which is a pity.
