Rediscover albums with Longplay

IN A WORLD of all—you—can-eat streaming music and algorithmically generated playlists and stations, the idea of the album might seem quaint.

But if you miss the days when albums were designed to be experienced as a whole, Longplay ($25, https://longplay.rocks) is a perfect complement to Apple Music.

The app presents your collection in ways that bring albums to the fore. The main view is an album wall of cover art. You’re encouraged to play entire albums rather than individual songs. Head to Settings > Playback and you’ll even find an (optional) Purity setting, which blocks track skipping — making the Skip button switch entire albums rather than tracks.

The walkthroughs will get you started and explain how to sort albums and build collections. They assume you have installed Longplay and allowed it access to Apple Music. If you need more, head to Settings > Integrations, and explore linking Longplay to Last.fm (https://last.fm) and Alfred (www.alfredapp.com).

HOW TO Play music in Longplay

Double-click an album and it starts to play. To play a random album, click the dice button or define a shortcut in Longplay > Settings > General. Ctrl-click an album and you can choose an option to add it to your queue.
